Sandy Springs Education Force, in collaboration with Arts Sandy Springs, brought volunteers to our classrooms today. They read selections from "Fresh Picked Poetry" and engaged the students in a poetry related activity. Sandy Springs Reads is a “One Book, One Community” event that promotes literacy and builds a sense of community by engaging its citizens in discussions and activities around a common book. The community book chosen this year is "Gaining Ground: A Story of Farmers' Market, Local Food, and Saving the Family Farm" by Forrest Pritchard. The elementary level companion book is "Fresh-Picked Poetry: A Day at the Farmer's Market" by Michelle Schaub. They came with a special message recorded by the author and local farmers market treats including cheese, honey, whole wheat bread & apples. We had a great time! Please see the pictures below.
We also has some students visit the Heritage Sandy Springs Farmers Market this weekend & read excerpts from "Fresh-Picked Poetry: A Day at the Farmer's Market". They did a fabulous job & were very brave!
